If you have watched any of the episodes in the newly released second season of Netflix’s Hemlock Grove, you may have noticed that the gore factor has been seriously ramped up. To take the special effects of werewolf transformations and vampire blood buffets to a higher level, Hemlock Grove turned to MastersfX (MFX). More than a creature shop, MFX has worked on countless movies and tv shows, including Twilight: Eclipse, True Blood, Underworld: Awakening, Rizzoli & Isles, and Almost Human, to provide the most realistic effects possible.
At a recent press junket, MFX showed off some of their new tricks for bringing to life the monsters of Hemlock Grove. Included among the gruesome props is a full sized wolf carcass that actor Landon Liboiron could emerge from after reverting back to human form.
