If you’ve never seen Terry Gilliam’s 1995 film 12 Monkeys starring Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis, you should check it out.  It’s got everything conspiracy theorists, apocalypse preppers, and time travel buffs could possibly want.

Syfy announced today that it is green lighting a new drama based on the film.   It will follow the journey of a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Syfy President Dave Howe explained, “12 Monkeys’ is a captivating time travel adventure and high stakes race against the clock. We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects including the recently announced event series ‘Ascension’ and the second season renewal of ‘Helix’ from Ron Moore.”  Other familiar faces on the show will include:  Amanda Schull (Suits, Pretty Little Liars), Noah Bean (Nikita, Damages) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe).

12 Monkeys is slated to premiere in January of 2015.
