Have you had a chance to check out the French crime drama The Witnesses on iTunes or Netflix? If you like crime shows in the vein of Top of the Lake, The Fall, and Happy Valley, you will want to watch The Witnesses. It is described as:
“An English-subtitled French mystery thriller that follows two very different cops: a young lead detective Sandra Winckler and Paul Maisonneuve, a formerly-retired Crime Squad legend, both working around the clock to solve the mystery of a killer who is desecrating graves, then placing bodies in show homes. Many twists and turns reveal the truth of Paul’s past and uncover the shadows of a man who will stop at nothing to gain his long-sought revenge.”
OHSOGRAY talked with star Marie Dompnier about transitioning to television work and what she is looking forward to in season 2.
Sandra is obsessed with her work. What is it that motivates her?
She’s very excited by searching for the truth and obsessed about protecting people. And she’s obsessive because for her it’s a condition to being a good cop.
Thierry Lhermitte is an acting legend in France, what was it like to work with him?
It was an amazing experience to work with Thierry as he’s a real gentleman and not behaving like a movie star. He’s very kind and we got to really work together, which is great.
You mentioned that your career has primarily been in theatre. What type of adjustments did you have to make in transitioning to television?
It’s true that before Witnesses, I had little experience with cameras. But on the set I found myself in the right place. After that, being on stage or on a set is the same job even though the dispositive is different.
What can you tell us about season 2?
At this moment season 2 is still being written, only the future will tell us.
